On September 17th, 2015, MBF joined Florida International University in recognizing the Golden Scholars at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum!

The event was hosted by Dr. Jaffus Hardrick, FIU’s Vice Provost for Access and Success and included an exciting and interactive workshop on public speaking by Nathan Kurland, MBF’s Board Chair, & a luncheon.

During the event, the students spoke about how the Golden Scholars Program has helped them and continues helping them in pursuing their academic goals. Their deep gratitude for the program, especially to Courtenay McClain, the Program Director of the Golden Scholars, was moving.

In March of 2015, the MBF gifted $40,000 for the second year in a row in support of Florida International University’s Golden Scholars Program. In alignment with the mission of the MBF of developing educational opportunities for minority students in the City of Miami, the gift supported 10 students participating in the Golden Scholars Program during the summer of 2015. FIU’s Golden Scholars Program is an intensive, alternative, residential admissions program which serves as an obtainable gateway for underrepresented, first generation student populations who may not meet the general criteria for Undergraduate Admissions. It prepares students who would not otherwise been accepted into FIU to transition into college life and helps ensure that they will graduate through continued mentoring and monitoring.
